Findus Vegetables Policy

We are committed to offering the best tasting and highest quality vegetables possible.

As well as ensuring the vegetables we use are of a superior quality, we also have a responsibility to ensure they are grown and sourced in a way that works with the natural environment.

Over the last decades we have developed and implemented the Findus LISA system, Low Input Sustainable Agriculture, for our contract farming of vegetables in Sweden. We are continously improving the system and extending it to our vegetable growing in Spain. Our ultimate goal is to have Findus LISA quality for all vegetables in our products.

Findus LISA is developed from the philosophy and the spirit of farming settled by North Carolina State University. At present Findus LISA is comparable with the EUREPGAP certification system and its principles of risk prevention, risk analysis and Integrated Crop Management, ICM. Findus LISA, however, adds to this a set of standards to ensure superior quality, visible as well as invisible.

In our agronomy Research & Development station, Findus invests in agriculture projects focusing on improving the visible and invisible quality with lowest possible impact on nature. This is done through: plant breeding, plant protection, soil nutrients and disease monitoring systems.

About half the amount of our vegetables comes from Findus’ own contract farming in Sweden where Findus LISA is fully implemented and in Spain where the implementation is in progress. Our goal is to have LISA fully implemented in Spain for the 2007 growing season.

Findus also encourages sustainability at our suppliers’. We recommend them to apply for EUREPGAP or similar certification as a first step and support them with knowledge transfer in order to implement the Findus LISA system as a further quality improvement.

We actively support the development of sustainable agriculture and encourage an open debate with all stakeholders.
